Pexels MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- With Fourth of July celebrations around the corner, the Michigan City Police Department would like to remind everyone of the fireworks guidelines.
Fireworks may only be discharged by a person who is 18 years or older and only during set dates and times outlined in city ordinance 54-231.
Fireworks can only be discharged withing the corporate limits of Michigan City on the following dates:
- June 29 - July 3 from 5 p.m. until 2 hours after sunset
- July 4 from 10 a.m. until Midnight
- July 5 - 9 from 5 p.m. until 2 hours after sunset
- December 31 from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. on January 1
Anyone discharging fireworks outside of the set dates and times is subject to being cited.
The fines foe firework related offenses are:
- $50 for the first offense
- $100 for the second offense
- $250 for the third or additional offenses
