First round complete at Four Winds Invitational
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The latest installment of the Four Winds Invitational is now underway. Many of the top players on the Symetra Tour took their first shot at the leaderboard at Blackthorn Golf Club.
Jenny Coleman finished her round as the leader at 4-under par. She tallied six birdies, three of which came during a bogey-free back nine.
“It was a good round," she said afterwards. "I was hitting the ball pretty consistently, gave myself a lot of birdie chances and made a lot in that 12-15 foot range. The greens are pretty fast. They’ve been fast since Monday so they’re keeping them pretty consistent which is nice.”
Several challengers chased Coleman throughout the day.
Elin Arvidsson finished with a highlight, chipping in from the bunker on 18 to complete a round at 3-under par. She is tied for second with Laura Wearn.
“I was like ‘I’ve been practicing a lot of bunker shots so why not go for it?’," said Arvidsson. "I hit a good shot and made it. It was good to play well in wind and just know that it’s going to be windy the rest of the tournament and I got it done.”
Six players are tied for fourth at 2-under par. That group includes teen sensation Alexa Pano, while defending champion Maia Schechter sits at 1-under.
Now, the players regroup for Saturday's round as the contenders try to make their move.
“It’s good to start off because you know you can learn a little more each day," said Coleman. "Hopefully you can keep backing that up and charging forward.”
