First winter storm: Power outages

Thousands of people are in the dark following the first winter storm to hit Michiana.

All night into the early morning there are reports of downed power lines and trees in cities spread all across Michiana.

So far Berrien County, Michigan is the hardest hit. Over 5,500 people are without power.

In Indiana, St. Joseph County has over 2,000 people in the dark and there are over 1,000 people without power in La Porte County.

Cass County has over 1,700 outages.

I&M offers the following estimated times of restoration:

  • Three Rivers area: 10 p.m. tonight
  • Benton Harbor area: 6 p.m. Sunday
  • Buchanan and New Buffalo areas: noon Sunday
  • South Bend area: 8 p.m. Saturday
  • Elkhart area: 8 p.m. tonight
  • Fort Wayne area: midnight tonight
  • Muncie area: 6 p.m. tonight
