Five arrested and charged for weekend armed robbery in Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports they've arrested five people in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, Sept. 13 in the 300 block of Middlebury Street.
On that Friday at around 11:34 p.m., police say two victims, a man and woman, arrived at the Elkhart Police Department at 175 Waterfall Dr. to report an armed robbery in the 300 block of Middlebury Street after they were messaged by a friend to come to that location.
The woman reported multiple men approached her while in her Dodge Grand Caravan parked on Middlebury Street.
The victim told police a man allegedly held a knife to her, struck her with his firearm, and stole her knife. She refused further medical treatment.
The man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, reported an armed man told him to hand over his possessions, and so he gave the man a vape and his wallet.
During the investigation, police received judicial approval for a search warrant for an apartment at 304 Middlebury Street which was executed.
Police say during the execution of the warrant, officers found a 17-year-old male suspect hiding inside the apartment who had multiple firearms on his person.
Authorities say the investigation led officers arrest the 17-year-old suspect along with a second 17-year-old male suspect. The two were then taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office filed formal criminal charges against the initial two suspects, identified as Issac Duckworth and Kaleb Goodwin, both of Elkhart.
They were both charged with two counts of Armed Robbery, each a Level 3 Felony. Their bonds were set at $100,000 each.
Police say three other individuals were arrested in connection with the case on Saturday, Sept. 14, and booked into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges.
The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 19-year-old E’Marri Redmond, of Elkhart, with two counts of Armed Robbery, each a Level 3 Felony, with his bond set at $100,000.
Twenty-year-old Carrie Layton, of Elkhart, is charged with two counts of Armed Robbery, each a Level 3 Felony, with her bond set at $100,000.
The fifth suspect, 18-year-old Alora Layton, of Elkhart, is also charged with two counts of Armed Robbery, each a Level 3 Felony, with her bond set at $100,000.
