Five Dowagiac suspects arrested on meth and weapons related charges

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team (CCDET) announced on May 29, a CCDET detective made multiple arrests for possession of meth.

Authorities say a detective received information about a subject driving a vehicle with meth in their possession.

The report states the detective observed the suspect vehicle and had an officer make a traffic stop.

Police identified the driver as a 46-year-old Dowagiac man. Police say the man was found to be in possession of several concealed illegal knives and meth.

The passenger, a 39-year-old Dowagiac woman, was found to have a felony warrant for her and was subsequently arrested.

The report states some quantity of meth was also found on the woman and was also charged with possession of meth.

The driver and the passenger were both taken to the Cass County Jail.

The man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of meth.

Authorities say because of this initial stop, officers were contacted by a Michigan Department of Corrections agent who advised a check of several subjects currently on parole/probation needed to be done.

Officers located those three subjects in the 100 block of N. Front Street.

Police say when making contact with the subjects, officers observed a 30-year-old Dowagiac man with a handgun.

The 30-year-old was taken into custody and found to be in possession of meth.

Officers say they found meth on the two other subjects, a 33-year-old man and 29-year-old man, both of Dowagiac, as well as prescription Suboxone on one of them.

The 30-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felony firearm, and possession of meth.

The 33-year-old was charged with possession of meth.

The 29-year-old was charged possession of meth and Suboxone.

All suspects were taken to the Cass County Jail.

Charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.

The names of the suspects are withheld pending their arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court.
