Five people flown to a Fort Wayne hospital after buggy crash in Elkhart County
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Five people in a horse-drawn buggy were flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne after a car rear ended the carriage, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash took place just after 10:45 pm on Friday on SR 12, south of US 6.
According to the report, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north on SR 13, just south of US 6, when they allegedly rear ended the buggy, which was traveling in front of the vehicle, deputies said.
The driver of the buggy, a 33-year-old man from Syracuse, Ind. had foot pain after the crash. One of the passengers of the buggy, a 32-year-old woman, sustained neck and head pain. Three other passengers, an 8-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 10-year-old girl, sustained injuries as well.
The driver of the Grand Cherokee signed off on medical treatment and did not sustain any injuries, deputies said. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
