Flash flooding risk today - turn around, don’t drown

NOW: Flash flooding risk today - turn around, don’t drown

We’ve seen a few showers and thunderstorms this morning but we’re nowhere near done.

With a stationary front setting up over the Midwest today, heavy rain is in the forecast.

Across Michiana, many could end up seeing close to a half an inch of rain, but greater amounts are likely within thunderstorms and downpours.

Periods of torrential rain will be possible today with some areas likely seeing rain rates greater than 1-inch per hour. There is a slight chance for flooding today with most of Michiana seeing at least a 15% probability of flash flooding within 25 miles of any point.

When flash flooding strikes, always remember - turn around, don’t drown.

Flood waters are never considered safe, in fact, more deaths are caused by flooding each year than by thunderstorms and their related dangers.

Just 6 inches of rain can sweep an adult off their feet. Most cars can be picked up and carried away by only a foot of water; larger cars, SUVs, and trucks can be moved by 18 inches.
