Flooding, Cold and Snow...OH MY!

We are in for a fun week here in Michiana!  Well, at least I am...the weather team is going to be busy!

The National Weather Service just issued their Hydrologic Outlook, which is just a fancy name for monitoring the area rivers and lakes and "watching out for some flooding".  As you would expect, we are going to keep a close eye on the area rivers after a rainy weekend, and what could be a snowy week!

Over the weekend, most of Michiana saw some rain on Saturday night, but it did not amount to a whole lot.  South Bend reported 0.12" of rain to start the weekend.  So far Sunday has seen about half an inch of rainfall across the area.  And, we are basically done with the heaviest of the rain, but could add a little more with some light showers through the overnight.

Monday morning could see some additional rain, but most of it will be out of Michiana by the morning commute.  We will see temperatures falling to the freezing point overnight, so be very careful on your way to work or school!  It will be slick out there!  Especially use caution on bridges and overpasses, as they are the first to ice up!

Monday night will see more rain, heavy at times into Tuesday.  This will cause river levels to rise, so we will be monitoring the threat for flooding very carefully.

Overnight Tuesday, the rain will switch to snow.  This is looking to happen late overnight, meaning that most of the precip will fall as rain, as opposed to snow.  We could still see about an inch of snowfall accumulation, but nothing in terms of a major snowstorm.  The biggest threat will be icy roads and reduced visibility.  Be very careful on your way to work or school again Wednesday!

There is another chance for some snow late Thursday and into Friday...so it will start looking a little more like December as the month of November draws to an end!
