Folks in Michigan stocking up on alcohol for the holidays

NILES, MICHIGAN, Ind. -- With it being the night before Christmas Eve and a Sunday at that, liquor stores all over Michigan were jam packed .

Party Store Manager Rajvar Bhullar has heard the sound of the door ringing non-stop all day.

"We are so busy today," said Bhullar.

Because people have been in and out of the store stocking up on booze for their favorite holiday drink.

"It's the pain killer," said Michelle Peterek.

"We got some Dogfish Head," said David Jaffe.

Bhullar said liquor sales go up 30 percent during the holidays. That is no surprise, especially on the Sunday before Christmas in Michigan.

"Obviously its Sunday you can't buy booze in Indiana so you definitely need to go to Michigan in order to get it," said South Bend resident Leah Coleman.

While Coleman had to travel across state lines to get her holiday beer, she said it was well worth it.

"Sometimes in order to deal with your relatives you need to have some drinks."
