NOW: Former Jimtown teacher charged with misdemeanor battery

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The former Jimtown teacher who was captured on surveillance video striking a student has been charged with one count of battery resulting in bodily injury, a misdemeanor.

Michael Hosinski was arrested on March 3 on a preliminary charge of battery. Formal charges were filed Monday.

Hosinski was a social studies teacher and JV football coach for Jimtown High School. After the incident on February 25, the Baugo Community School District allowed Hosinski to retire early.

Hosinski will be in court on March 10 at 1:30 p.m.
