Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessell announced 54-year-old John Chase, of Stevensville, pled no contest to Misconduct in Office and False Certification.
Salvage vehicle inspections are done to ensure vehicles extensively damaged or reconstructed with parts from other sources are safe and their components are not traced to stolen vehicles. State officials say officers performing these must certify the origin of all parts.
Chase, who was the sole salvage vehicle inspector within the Lincoln Township Police Department, was accused of submitting several falsified inspection forms to the Michigan Department of State.
Chase is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 10, in the 2nd Circuit Court in Berrien County.
