NOW: Former St. Joseph High School student writes song for 2020 seniors

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A former St. Joseph High School student released a song for the class of 2020 this month. South Bend native, Justin McCormick released the song titled 'Can't Take That' on May 7th.

The video for the song was shot at St. Joseph High School.

"Every Monday night they were turning their lights on at their football field on Monday nights and putting 2020 on the scoreboard," said McCormick. "I saw a picture of it and wanted to contact them to see if I could shoot the video on their field."

The three and a half minute video features seniors from the class of 2020 from across the country. McCormick says the empathy he felt for those missing out on proms and graduations led him to write the song.

"You’re probably holding on to every day you’ve got and then, all of a sudden, you’re not going to school anymore," said McCormick. "You might have been walking down the hallway one day not realizing that, that was your last trip in that class."

McCormick says he hopes the song will help all of us remember to cherish the time we have with one another, before it gets taken away.

"Hold this time in their hearts and never forget what we’re going through right now because what we’re going through right now is going to cause us to cherish the memories that are in the making right now," said McCormick.
