Founder of well-known Bloomington restaurants dies in plane crash

The founder of well-known Bloomington-based restaurants, including Social Cantina, died in a plane crash in Shelby County on Wednesday, according to WRTV.

Nathan Finney and his flight instructor, Warren Bruhl, were believed to be the only ones on the plane when it crashed in a field a mile north of I-74 just before 5 p.m.

Finney was president and founder of Finney Hospitality Group, which developed restaurants like Social Cantina, The Tap, SmokeWorks and Yogi’s.

The group posted a statement on the restaurants’ social media pages mourning Finney’s loss.

Gambit Aviation also posted about Bruhl’s death on Facebook.

Just hours before the crash, Bruhl posted about his flight instructions with Finney. According to the post, the two were out flying the previous day.
