SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Wednesday, Chief of Police Scott Ruszkowski’s son, Dieter, was sworn in as a South Bend Police Department officer alongside five others.
It’s now the fourth generation of the Ruszkowski family to join the department.
It echoes a similar trend where Chief Scott got his start in the late 80s, when his dad was also still actively working at the department.
As far as the family knows, this is the only time a chief has been on-staff at the same time as his or her son.
