Free COVID-19 tests may not be free much longer

The pandemic may be over, but people are still getting sick with COVID-19. Many people have been able to get tests for free or have the costs reimbursed by their insurance company, but that could change beginning May 12.

You see, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services made it mandatory for insurance companies to pay for people's tests, but that mandate expires this week.

The main reason for the change is that the COVID-19 pandemic will no longer be considered a public health emergency in the United States after May 11.

That means some of the government requirements on insurance companies will be changing.
