Free lecture on the environmental impacts of Ukraine invasion

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. -- Three Ukrainian experts join a lecture regarding the environmental effects of warfare on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

The lecture, “Environmental Protection in Wartime Ukraine”, is part of an ongoing series called Environmental Fridays. This session focuses on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting environmental devastation.

“It is important that the environmental costs of war be part of our discussion; it really has not been,” says Andrews University Chemistry Professor Dr. Desmond Hartwell Murray. “The impact of war on the environment is inescapably personal; war essentially weaponizes the environment both in the short and long-term.”

The Ukrainian guest speakers include:

  • Olena Kravchenko, Executive Director of Environment-People-Law at the EPL Journal
  • Dr. Oleksii Vasyliuk, Director of the Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG)
  • Pavlo Tkachenko, Co-Founder of Save Dnipro and SaveEcoBot developer

Hosted by Murray with co-host Dr. Motria Caudill, Adjunct Professor at Andrews University, the virtual lecture will be hosted on Zoom at the following link:
