ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- Area Agency on Aging announced that senior residents of Southwest Michigan will have an opportunity to receive a free “Home Safe Home” safety kit on September 22.

This initiative was prepared as a way to spread awareness for senior safety during National Falls Prevention Awareness Week, September 20 through 24.

Seniors that are 80 and older and live in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren County are eligible to receive a free home safety kit on September 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the agency’s Campus for Creative Aging, 2920 Lakeview Avenue, St. Joseph.

These “Home Safe Home” kits will provide seniors with 18- and 36-inch grab bars for bathtubs and other areas, a Personal Emergency Response System 911 button, a blood pressure monitor, and more.

Instillation of the grab bars will not be provided by the agency.

The number of safety kits available is limited and will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

Any eligible senior that would like to register for a kit can visit here or call 269-408-4369 to sign up.
