Free trees for Arbor Day celebration in Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. –To celebrate Arbor Day, the Elkhart Environmental Center (EEC) will hold the 30th Annual Arbor Day celebration on Saturday, April 28th at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is free and will have educational activities for the whole family, including a tree giveaway.
EEC is honoring the day by giving participants trees in the Adopt-A-Tree area. Trees are limited and only allowed one per household.
Arborists will be onsite to answer questions to give recipients information on proper care.
Elkhart is one of the oldest Tree City USA communities in Indiana.
The schedule of the activities as following:
- 10:00 a.m. – Tree giveaway and guided bird hike
- 11:00 a.m. – Reading of “The Lorax” by Mayor Time Neese
- 11:30 a.m. – Special scavenger hunt tree hike
- 12:00 p.m. – Spring Plant Exchange
The plant exchange will allow guests to bring perennials, shrubs, trees and bulbs to exchange with other gardeners. Those plants must be potted in soil and properly watered.
There will be several booths set up to provide information about wildlife and the impact is has on our community, like trees and fish in the river.
