SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- The Fremont Youth Foundation is hosting its annual "Stop the Violence Rally Back to School Rally" Sunday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. The free event will be hosted at Fremont Park.
This is the 6th year for the event. This year's rally will focus on the importance of financial literacy when it comes to preventing violence.
"Poverty is the root of violence and is rooted to a lot of the youth violence in our neighborhood," said Blu Casey, a co-founder of the Fremont Youth Foundation. "Once we can understand that part of the situation, we can start growing and understanding the resources and solutions that we need to actually fix the problem in our community,"
The rally will also provide food, free hair cuts, and mentorship opportunities for those in attendance.
"The main message we want to send is unity and specially right now with all the violence that’s going on in the neighborhood, we want to send out youth empowerment for our youth because they are the future leaders of our neighborhood and our community," said Casey.
