From Niles to South Bend: Jays 2 Keeps the Spirit Alive for basketball season
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jays 2, located inside the Wingate Hotel, follows the transition of Jays Lounge from Niles after the original building was sold amid redevelopment pressures.
“It was, you know, hard to see it go, but it didn’t really go anywhere. It wasn’t the end of the book, it was a new chapter,” said James Brazo, chef and manager at Jays.
The new location aims to carry over the identity that built a loyal following while offering a different setting with new innovations.
“Choatic fun. Controlled chaos. That’s the best way to put it and it’s a badge we wear with honor,” Brazo said.
While South Bend residents often stick to familiar spots, the response has been positive
With football season over, the bar is leaning into March basketball, featuring multiple TVs and game-day specials to attract fans.
“We do a special game day burger, people love cheeseburgers and goes good with sports. We’re really proud of the amount of TV’s that we have, you know, to be able to watch them all and see all the different games going on at once,” Brazo said.
Brazo said the focus remains on community and atmosphere.
“Everyone’s always smiling and enjoying the food and having a great time. And that’s our mission,” he said.
Jays 2 plans to continue hosting events and updating its menu as it establishes itself in South Bend.
