FSU tradition inspired by Notre Dame

Every sports team has its own traditions before a home game and Florida State is no exception. One of their traditions started after an FSU grad went to the University of Notre Dame.

Fans meet at the Unconquered statue on the Florida State campus for the ceremonial lighting of the spear the night before a home game.

The light burns until sunrise the morning after the game.

The tradition began with FSU grad Stephen Reilly.

He says got the idea after he went to a Notre Dame in 1993 against FSU.

He watched Notre Dame's band perform on the steps of Bond Hall, then march to the stadium.
