GOSHEN, Ind. – City officials in Goshen confirmed that there was a major gas leak that happened near the intersection of High Street and US 33 on Wednesday, causing a road closure on US 33 between Harrison Street and Chicago Avenue.
Homes and businesses in the area were evacuated south to Lincoln Avenue, north to Chicago Avenue and West to Riverside Boulevard.
Residents were told around 1 a.m. on Thursday morning that it was safe to return home.
City officials say that 14 businesses had to be closed for the day.
NIPSCO, the Goshen Police Department, Goshen Fire, Engineering, Streets and the Mayor were at the scene of the incident.
