GE Aviation groundbreaking

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Construction on the new GE Aviation Facility in Lafayette is set to start next month.

The official groundbreaking ceremony for GE Aviation was held Tuesday.

Plans to bring the $100,000,000 investment to Lafayette were announced in March.

Construction project manager Eric Matteson says crews plan on moving ground August 11th.

"Construction will go really, really quick. We want to get it dried in before the winter arrives. We'll start moving equipment into the building in May and we'll starting putting technicians in to start setting up the facility as early as October," Matteson said.

The first engine is set to come off the line in 2016.

GE Aviation is expected to create 200 new jobs by 2020.
