Gerry Turner, Indiana native and star of "The Golden Bachelor," announces divorce with wife Theresa Nist

NEW YORK -- The stars of the first season of ABC's "The Golden Bachelor," Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, made an emotional announcement of their divorce on Good Morning America Friday morning, just three months after marriage.

The 'Golden Split' comes after the elderly couple, 72 and 70 years old, took a good look at their living situations and felt they would be most happy living apart.

Turner and Nist held hands as they shared the news through Good Morning America. They explained that they looked at homes in other states but were unable to find somewhere to truly settle down. Turner continues to live in Hudson, IN while Nist stayed in New Jersey.

The couple says they had a prenup and still consider themselves to be best friends, and still affectionately love each other.

Turner and Nist told viewers they should not give up on love and should instead remain hopeful. The two plan to stay in each other's lives but will seek love with other partners.

More of Turner and Nist's story and decision will air Friday night on Nightline.
