Get a mammogram, get free chocolate

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one local hospital is offering a sweet incentive!

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center has teamed up with the South Bend Chocolate Company.

Every woman who gets screened in the mobile medical unit next month gets a free bar of chocolate!

Officials say the "state of the art" clinic-on-wheels allows them to treat more people.

"It was an outreach for the community. So, we can be here. So, the public didn't have to come to us, especially since gas is more expensive now. People don't get around as easily as they used to,” said Mammographer Denise Hammerquist.

Last year, the mobile medical unit provided more than 1,000 screenings in Michiana.

The event kicks off Monday, Oct. 3 at the South Bend Chocolate Company on Sample Street.
