'Gladiator' star rescued by U.S. Coast Guard near Long Island

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. -- Actor Russell Crowe was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after running out of daylight.

The actor was kayaking with a friend in the waters off Long Island on Saturday night.

Crowed tweeted that he did not get lost but simply ran out of daylight.

The pair hitched a ride back to dry land with the crew.

Crowe won an Oscar for his role in the movie Gladiator.
