WALKERTON, Ind. - Both Glenn and Marian girls have had successful seasons in the NIC. That trend continued Friday night as both teams advanced to their 3A sectional finals.
Glenn took down Washington 48-34, and head coach Kyle Amor said his team was thrilled to do so in the sectional they've had the chance to host.
"We couldn't do it in a better place than at home with our home crowd," he said. "I told the girls in pregame that we've got a fifth grader's birthday party with her friends here at this game. It's big for our community and I'm glad we get to play another game tomorrow night."
Marian took the second game, defeating Jimtown 82-35 and setting up the meeting between the Lady Knights and Lady Falcons.
"They're well coached and have a 1,000-point scorer on their squad," said Amor of his team's next opponent. "This is the best Marian team that I've seen in the last seven years. When we saw them in the first game earlier this season, they gave us everything we could handle."
That first meeting resulted in a 48-31 Marian victory, but Amor says his squad will hope to use that as a lesson for Saturday's championship game.
"We have to make sure we're playing well at the beginning tomorrow night. Like I told the girls, if we make some shots [early], and all of a sudden things start to go a little bit better for us."
The 3A Sectional 19 Championship tips at 7 p.m. on Saturday at John Glenn High School. See highlights of both games above!
