Golfers raised money for charities and needy families

MOLINE, Ill. --- Golfers teed up at the annual John Deere Classic in Illinois Friday.


The also raised some money for local charities.


The event raised $6 million.


Most of the money will go to help out families affected by cuts in food stamp benefits.


"The organizations are all going to get 100 percent of what we collect for them, and they're all going to get an extra bonus," said Kristy Ketcham Jackson of Birdies For Charity.


Organizers say that money will go to charities that deliver food to the needy.


The food stamp benefit cuts started on Friday.


A family of four will see a loss of about $40 per month.
