Good Samaritan shot in the foot

The Elkhart Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday evening.

The victim told police he was walking in the area of the River Run apartments when he saw an acquaintance and another person in an altercation.

The victim stepped in to stop the altercation, then walked away.

The victim told police he felt pain in his foot and saw what he believed was a bullet hole in a toe.

A friend transported the victim to the hospital.

Elkhart General Hospital called police around 7:15 p.m. to report the shooting.

During the investigation police learned the victim and others did not hear a gunshot at the time of the incident.
