GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. -- Monday the governor cut the ribbon on a new highway expansion.
The Interstate 69 extension project will eventually connect Indianapolis and Evansville.
Right now the first 67 miles are complete.
Gov. Mitch Daniels led a caravan on the new highway all from his motorcycle.
He believes the new road will be safer for drivers.
"A lot of lives have been lost and a lot of heartache has been caused by people trying to get between places with the absence of this road," said Daniels. "Forty-thousand incidents, we believe, will be prevented over the next couple decades alone."
The entire highway project is set to cost $900 million.
