Grammy Award-winning guest speaks to Mishawaka High School Bands

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Mickey Smith Jr., a seven-time Teacher of the Year and 2020 Grammy Music Educator Award recipient, will be visiting Mishawaka High School on Monday, March 21.

Born in Louisiana, Smith has found acclaim with his work as a saxophonist, motivational speaker, and master development coach for elementary and middle school band directors. Mishawaka High is the next stop on his SOUND180 tour, where he explains key strategies of success for music educators.

According to his website, “Smith believes that everyone has a “sound” (a significance) that has the power to resonate with others and create a shift in the thoughts and perspectives of our next and best. Mickey’s motivational mixture of music & message teaches people how to reach people with consistency, intention, and strategy”.

Smith will individually visit each band class at Mishawaka High School followed by a trip to John Young middle school later next week as part of his ongoing tour across North America.
