Grand opening for Pier Park art installation set for July 22

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The grand opening for the Pier Park art installation has been rescheduled for July 22 at 7:30 p.m.

Community members are invited to attend the grand opening event at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Colfax Avenue beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Specialty drinks will be available for purchase from Bare Hands Brewery.

The installation features an immersive art experience created by local artists GIIIVENS (Cara Givens) and Eli Kahn. The physical and auditory experience is the first of its kind in the world.

“Cara and Eli’s diverse, creative talents have created a one-of-a-kind experience designed to pull our community together along the riverfront,” said VPA Executive Director Aaron Perri. “This allows us to breathe new life into an underutilized space, while also providing an opportunity to celebrate our city’s growing public art acumen.”

The art installation is in collaboration with South Bend Venues Parks & Arts and is funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.

The Pier Park project is part of a series of planned expansions to the South Bend River Lights. Two more features along the riverfront are expected later this summer.
