Grand Rapids Police investigate officer-involved shooting

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The investigation of an officer-involved shooting in Grand Rapids remains underway Monday evening.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, the shooting happened in the 3800 block of Whispering Way in an apartment complex on the city’s southeast side around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Several law enforcement agencies were investigating in the area which several search warrants were executed.

GRPD says while attempting to arrest two suspects, a deputy from the Kent County Sheriff’s Department became involved in a shootout with one of suspects. The suspect was struck in the chest by the deputy’s bullet and is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The KCSD will be handling the investigation.
