NOW: Gravesites at Hillcrest Cemetery are left damaged following an incident over the weekend

PIERCETON, Ind. -- Over the weekend, an incident happened at Hillcrest Cemetery, leaving damage to multiple headstones.

One of the headstones that has significant damage belongs to Gail Kerr.

Kerr’s daughter and granddaughter are now wondering what happens next.

After scrolling on Facebook over the weekend, Misty Snyder saw posts about graves damaged there. With her mother buried in the sacred grounds, she reached out to see if her gravesite was affected. Unfortunately, Gail Kerr’s final resting place was left destroyed.

“It’s just really upsetting, like that's my grandma,” Laicey Snyder, granddaughter of Kerr, said.

When Snyder saw the damage, her headstone was pushed off the foundation. Kerr’s headstone was pushed to the opposite side of the road, and some of the other headstones were cracked in half.

Snyder says that without the help from the post by the Pierceton Police Department, saying they are investigating an incident, she wouldn’t have known about the damage.

“I just feel bad for the other families that have been impacted. I’m just concerned if they aren’t local to Pierecton or the surrounding areas, or aren’t on social media, how are they going to be contacted?” Snyder said.

Pierceton Police Department says they are still investigating what happened at the cemetery over the weekend and that a report hasn’t been filed.
