Group wants to address Elkhart's education issues

Some Elkhart County residents want to get the county's voice heard at the state level.

According to the group, they are looking for more people from across the county to join forces to create a local chapter of Indiana Coalition for Public Education.

They hope to work against public education issues regarding standardized testing and tax caps that cut funding for public schools.

“It's a treasure. It's what we need to educate our children and our children are our future. Without a strong public education system, we are all going to suffer and think we have to do something before it's too late,” says Friends of Public Education Founder Tanzie F. Nielsen.

The next meeting is Tuesday June 16th at 5:30 at the Lefever Plumbing & Heating Conference Room.
