Head-on collision sends both drivers to hospital; police investigate

Niles Township Deputies are investigating a serious head-on collision that happened Saturday sending both drivers to the hospital.

It happened on M-51 near Pucker Street in Niles Township around 9:40 p.m.

Officers say they found the drivers of both vehicles entrapped in their cars when they arrived at the scene.

Niles Township Fire units used extrication equipment to remove the drivers.

Both drivers were transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Police say a van crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage. 

Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the crash and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
