ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- A 64-year-old Bridgman man is dead following a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on US 12.

The Michigan State Police reports troopers are investigating the crash which happened around 12:09 p.m., near Lima Road in White Pigeon Township.

The initial investigation determined a GMC Envoy, driven by a 20-year-old White Pigeon man, was traveling east on US 12 before attempting to pass two vehicles.

The Envoy then struck an oncoming GMC box truck, driven by a Bridgman man, head-on

The box truck driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Envoy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Bronson Hospital. Police say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Authorities believe alcohol and drugs to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
