Hearing set for council member being sued by police officers

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A hearing between South Bend Common Council member Henry Davis Jr. and the 4 officers suing him over the police tapes scandal is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The 4 officers suing Davis include St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett and Lt. Dave Wells, along with South Bend Police officers Brian Young and Steve Richmond.

They're suing the city's 2nd District Representative for libel in relation to a letter the councilman sent to the U.S. Department of Justice, disclosing content from phone conversations recorded in the police station.

The plaintiffs are seeking a payment of $10,000 each from councilman Henry Davis Jr.

The hearing will address a motion for protective order, which is issued when one party asks the court to remove a document submitted by the opposing party.
