Here’s when you can use fireworks in your area for the Fourth of July

Many communities across Michiana have different time frames for when fireworks can be set off.

In Indiana, fireworks can be used within the following time frames. These times are protected by state law and cannot be banned by local ordinance:

  • June 29 through July 3 and July 5 through July 9 between 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset
  • July 4 between 10 a.m. and midnight 

In Michigan, fireworks can be used within the following time frames:

  • June 29 through July 4 between 11 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. 
  • July 5 between 11 a.m. and 11:45 ONLY IF July 5 falls on a Friday or Saturday

Argos follows Indiana state law.

Lapaz

Bremen

St. Joseph County

South Bend

Fireworks cannot be used on any public street or in any public park within corporate limits of the City of South Bend.

Residents in South Bend city limits can use fireworks on their own properties during the following times:

  • June 29-July 3 and July 5-9
    • Between 5 and 11 p.m.
  • July 4
    • Between 10 a.m. and midnight


Michigan

Berrien County

Berrien County follows Michigan state law. Fireworks are allowed at the following times:

  • June 29-July 4
    • 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. 
  • It is illegal to ignite fireworks on public property without permission


Cass County

Cass County follows Michigan state law. Individual townships and cities may vary. 


Van Buren County

Van Buren Township

Van Buren Township follows Michigan state law.
