Here's where to get your COVID vaccine and booster before fall
THE FDA and CDC don't want you to wait on getting an updated COVID vaccine.
With new emerging variants, including EG.5, manufacturers from Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech have developed an updated vaccine in counter of variants.
While risks for hospitalization or death from COVID-19 has tremendously decreased, there's currently a surge with a 7.7 percent increase in hospitalizations and over 20,000 hospitalized nationwide this week.
While not as extreme as before, symptoms can include coughing, congestion and discomfort.
However, fewer people are getting a vaccine now.
Is it that the common consensus feels that the COVID vaccine is a "one and done" or is a lack of accessibility? Maybe a little of both.
The CDC reports that 69.5 percent of American received the initial COVID vaccine, but only 17 percent received an updated booster dose.
However, access to vaccines and tests have been limited with some pharmacies canceling appointments due to a limited amount of the vaccine.
In other cases, some people are finding insurance only covering part of the cost, paying $100 to $200 out of pocket with an administrative fee or even a doctor's visit fee, for children enrolled in a VFC program.
Under Medicare, you can't be charged for a COVID-19 vaccine, if that's all you get on that visit.
The Federal Government purchases vaccines directly from manufacturers, they establish the price and then make it available.
The Biden-Harris administration needed to reallocate $10 billion in existing funding to put billions towards COVID-19 response efforts, including vaccines and treatments.
According to the White House, households can order up to four free tests on COVIDtest.gov.
Orders can be placed as early as September 25.
If you do test positive, follow the CDC guidelines for isolation.
If you're over 50 or have a weakened immune system or other health condition, talk to a medical professional.
