High-speed police chase takes wrong turn

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- Saturday night, a police chase ended when a minivan slammed into a house on Columbus Avenue.

There was a 2-year-old boy sitting in the living room when the van smashed through the window. His mother said she is grateful he was not hurt.

"All we heard was boom! And the car was in the window behind us!" explained Hope Jones who witnessed the accident.

Monday, the windows were boarded up and the front porch was completely demolished.

The homeowner said she was out doing last minute Christmas shopping when she received a call from someone telling her that a van drove through her living room.

Neighbors said they were shocked to hear about something like this happening, especially so close to Christmas.

Jamon Rodgers who lives a few doors down said, "If that was my family I wouldn't know what to do,  so I wish the best for the family, hope they get their things together."

Neighbors said cars race up and down Columbus Avenue often.  They hope this incident makes people think twice about speeding around the corners.

The homeowner said now the house will not hold any heat, it's freezing inside.  She and her family are just hoping for a little relief before the holidays.
