Highly respected retired fire chief passes away

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind--Long time Harris Township firefighter and fire chief Norman Crocker has passed away at the age of 91.

Crocker began his 35-year career as a volunteer firefighter with the Harris Township Fire Department in 1959.

He moved up through the ranks for about 20 years before relocating to Indianapolis where he served in the education division of the Indiana Fire Marshal's Office.

When he returned home to Granger in 1986, he was appointed as the Harris Township Fire Chief, where he served until he retired in 2000.

He was well known and respected by firefighters throughout Michiana and across the state.

Memorial services are being planned and an announcement will be made soon with details for those wishing to pay their respects.
