Hit & run causes gas leak inside residence

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A hit and run crash damaged the gas lines at a home in the 8000 block of Union Road, according to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

Monday around 3:15 a.m., the residents awoke to the smell of gas fumes and the sound of a gas leak and contacted the sheriff's department.

The Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Plymouth Fire and NIPSCO responded to the residence.

Deputies said a vehicle ran into the side of the building causing damage to the NIPSCO meter, gas pipes in the ground, a NIPSCO pole as well as the front porch and railing of the residence.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and report the incident.
