Homes near Vistula Road construction could smell distinctive odor coming from pipes next week
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The City of Mishawaka announced Wednesday morning that Vistula Road will have lane restrictions starting Friday, Aug. 30 and lasting until the following Friday, Sept. 6.
"Vistula Road will have lane restrictions between Harding Avenue and Bittersweet Road beginning at 7 a.m. on Aug. 30 for cured in place pipe (CIPP) operations," city officials said. "Both directions of traffic may be intermittently restricted at times during this process."
The city says barricades and signs will be in place during the construction and any questions regarding the project can be forwarded to Jeff Bonadies of C&E Excavating at (574)262-4346 or emailed to [email protected] .
"On rare occasions during the lining process, a distinctive resin-like odor (similar to a nail salon) may be detected in nearby homes and businesses," city officials said. "The odor is not an indicator of danger and should dissipate quickly if exposed to air."
Officials say the odor can enter through a pipe without a drain trap, or one that has a dried-out trap.
"To be proactive, we ask owners to fill any floor drains and/or traps with a bucket of water to reduce the possibility of this odor entering their home or business," city officials said. "If this does not resolve the issue, the owner shall contact the contractor via the phone number listed on the door hanger. The odor is typically limited to the block of the actual lining, but on rare occasion may travel through the liner to further locations."
