Hospital breaks ground on $9M expansion project

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth is about to break ground on a $9 million expansion project.

In a little over a year, the emergency department will be about twice as big as it is now.

The new emergency department will increase capacity by more than sixty percent.

Emergency crews say this expansion is necessary

"We take anything from injury to illness to the hospital and there are many times we would go out there and the emergency room would be full to their capacity and we would have to either wait for a bed or drop the patients off on a bed in the hallway, said Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller.

The expansion project is scheduled to start Friday
