How Berrien County is keeping road conditions safe during snowy conditions
BERRIEN COUNTY, Ind. -- With the upcoming winter and freezing weather, ABC57 spoke with the Commissions Coordinator for the Berrien County Road Department, Adri Boone, on what the county is doing to prepare roads.
Boone detailed the process for treating roads during snowy weather.
"When we're treating roads for winter conditions, obviously, first is blading off any of the snowfall or ice that occurs on the roadway network. After that, our trucks are also applying a traction control material. (A mixture of sand and salt.)"
She also discussed how the county is taking care of the road crews amidst the winter weather.
"For the most part, our staff have been hard at it almost every single day. In some capacity, they're running full routes or a portion of their routes, so we'll continue to monitor those conditions, address our crews appropriately, so we can continue to provide a safe and reasonable travel for the roadways...as far as keeping people safe, our important factor is we don't run our staff 24/7."
