Howard Park ice rink slated to open Friday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Time to lace up those skates. The Howard Park Ice Rink is scheduled to open Friday. Weather permitting of course.

The parks crew has been laying the ice down the past couple of days. But they said the opening all depends on the temperatures outside.

They hope they can open the door for both sessions.

The first session is between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.

"There is just a lot of factors that are involved. So it's very difficult to tell somebody when it gets to a certain temperature, we're not going to be open," said rink manager Melanie Trowbridge. "It's just kind of a call that I have to make when I come in here and get ready to open."

Temperatures are expected to stay above freezing for Friday.
