Hunter mistaken for animal, shot in field

BRANCH COUNTY, Mich. – A hunter was shot and injured while attempting to hunt for varmint in Branch County late Wednesday night.

According to Michigan State Police, troopers were dispatched to a field behind a home in Union Township where the hunter was shot around 11 p.m.

The hunter was lying in the field to hunt when a resident of the home mistook the hunter for an animal and shot at him. 

Officials say the hunter was not wearing any orange, high visibility clothing.

The victim was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
