Hurricane season starts Saturday

June 1 marks the start of hurricane season and officials are warning those who live near the water to be prepared.

Scientists forecast 18 named storms this season.

It has been eight years since a major hurricane made landfall in the United States.

Hurricane Wilma slammed into the southern part of Florida in late October 2005. Since then, only five category 1 or 2 storms have hit the United States.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.
