LAKE COUNTY, Ind. -- The southbound lanes of I-65 were shut down for over an hour Wednesday morning after a dump truck left in the upright position struck an overpass, according to Indiana State Police.

A dump truck driver who had just left a construction site off US30 hit the overpass at the 251.4 mile marker around 6 a.m.

The driver had forgotten to lower the bed of the dump truck, police said.

The dump bed detached from the tractor and overturned. Debris was strewn across both southbound lanes.

The driver had minor injuries from the crash.

The southbound lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.

An inspector has been notified to inspect the bridge for damage.
